QUALITY ASSESSMENT OF SEA LEVEL DATA by the UH SEA LEVEL CENTER/NATIONAL OCEANOGRAPHIC DATA CENTER JOINT ARCHIVE FOR SEA LEVEL updated: 09 Oct 2019 Station : Nagasaki Latitude: 32 44.0N Country : Japan Longitude: 129 52.0E JASL # : 362A Time Meridian: 135E (GMT + 9 hr) GLOSS # : 083 Originator #: NS NODC #: 13122901 Contributor : Japan Meteorological Agency 1-3-4 Otemachi, Chiyoda-ku Tokyo, Japan Originator : Japan Meteorological Agency Original Data: analog Instrmnt Type: float/well: Fuess Digitzd Intvl: hourly Present Data : Hourly, daily, and monthly values obtained by: Hourly : hourly spot reading Daily : 119-point convolution filter (Bloomfield, 1976) centered on noon applied to the hourly data with respective periods of the 95, 50, and 5% amplitude points at 124.0, 60.2, and 40.2 hours Monthly: Simple average of all daily values; calculated if 7 or fewer days are missing Span of data : 01 Jan 1985 - 31 Dec 2018 Gaps > 1 mon : none Time Refernce: GMT (hours 00-23) Space-filler Flag :-9999 Units : millimeters Missing Data Flag : 9999 Existing : Yes Operational : Yes Sat. Trans. : No Distribution : 1985-2018 Refernce Levl: All data are levelled to fixed bench marks and the tide staff zero. Tide gauge benchmark (TGBM) description: BM Control - Japan Met. Agency Benchmark bolt inside tide gauge hut adjacent to stilling well Auxiliary benchmarks: Tide station BM 2.3939m above Tokyo Peil (1991) Benchmark relationships: Tide Gauge Zero (TGZ) = 2.949m below Tokyo Peil (Mean Sea Level of Tokyo Bay) TGZ = 5.500m below TGBM (from 1960 onwards) Comment : The daily or monthly means do not reveal any obvious reference level shifts. The timing of the hourly data is good. Prior to 1989 the hourly residuals show low amplitude jitter on occassion, which is most likely a reflection of the recording device and digitization. The sharp anomalies in September 1991 are related to typhoon passages.
