QUALITY ASSESSMENT OF SEA LEVEL DATA by the UH SEA LEVEL CENTER/NATIONAL OCEANOGRAPHIC DATA CENTER JOINT ARCHIVE FOR SEA LEVEL updated: 09 Oct 2020 Station : Matarani-B Latitude: 17 00.1S Country : Peru Longitude: 072 06.5W JASL # : 094B Time Meridian: 075W (GMT - 5 hr) GLOSS # : none Originator #: NODC #: 51077201 Contributor : Direccion Hidrografia y Navegacion de la Marina Camarra 500 Chuculto Casilla Postal 80 Callao, Peru Originator : same Original Data: analog (DHN) Instrmnt Type: DHN: standard mechanical tide gauge removed 10/2011 Digitzd Intvl: DHN: spot hourly Present Data : Hourly, daily, and monthly values obtained by: Hourly : DHN: spot hourly Daily : 119-point convolution filter (Bloomfield, 1976) centered on noon applied to the hourly data with respective periods of the 95, 50, and 5% amplitude points at 124.0, 60.2, and 40.2 hours Monthly: Simple average of all daily values; calculated if 7 or fewer days are missing Span of data : 01 Jan 1989 - 15 Oct 2011 Gaps > 1 mon : 18 Dec 1990 - 02 Jan 1992;01 Dec 1993 - 01 Jan 1995 31 Jul 2005 - 02 Sep 2005;17 Mar 2010 - 18 May 2010 Time Refernce: GMT (hours 00-23) Space-filler Flag :-9999 Units : millimeters Missing Data Flag : 9999 Existing : Yes Operational : yes Sat. Trans. : Yes Distribution : 1992-2011 Refernce Levl: All heights have been referred to the station tide staff zero which is linked to fixed bench marks. In comparison of the daily means with adjacent stations (Arica and Callao), the mean level appears low for January-June 1989 and March-June 1990. However, the hourly residuals suggest non- abrupt changes. These suspicious signals are under investigation. This series is separate from 094A and 094C since the reference level zero has not been confirmed to be the same; thus, it is assumed different. Comment : Periods of noisy signals in the residuals occur most frequently in 1989-1990. This may be related to a clogged well. The instrument timing is of good quality for most of the record. Update received at JASL from DHNM May 2015 had 80 mm lower constant offset for overlapping period (Dec 2012). Thus historic series 1989- 2012 was adjusted to level of the update by subtracting 80 mm 1989-2012. 1993-2011 daily data in comparison with CMEMS altimetry suggests poor reference level stability. Use this series with caution.
