QUALITY ASSESSMENT OF SEA LEVEL DATA by the UH SEA LEVEL CENTER/NATIONAL OCEANOGRAPHIC DATA CENTER JOINT ARCHIVE FOR SEA LEVEL Updated: 05 Aug 2013 Station : Casey Latitude: 66 17.0S Country : Australia Longitude: 110 32.0E JASL # : 130A Time Meridian: 120E (GMT + 8 hr) GLOSS # : 278 Originator #: 20120 NODC #: 36116001 Contributor : National Tidal Centre, Bureau of Meteorology PO Box 421 Kent Town SA 5071 South Australia AUSTRALIA Originator : Australian Antarctic Division Channel Hwy Kingston, TAS 7050 Australia Original Data: digital Instrmnt Type: Pressure sensor, Platypus Engineering "Antarctic" tide gauges are made in Hobart, Tasmania and are bottom mounted in depths of 7-8 meters. Water temperature and atmostphereic pressure also measured. Total pressures as measured by this gauge are converted to depths using UNESCO Marine Science No. 44, 1983, p25. Air pressure supplied by the Bureau of Meteorology is reduced to sea level, interpolated to 5 mintes, and subtracted from the total pressure before being reduced to sea levels. Digitzd Intvl: 10 minute Present Data : Hourly, daily, and monthly values obtained by: Hourly : Cosine-Lanczos centered on the hour Daily : 119-point convolution filter (Bloomfield, 1976) centered on noon applied to the hourly data with respective periods of the 95, 50, and 5% amplitude points at 124.0, 60.2, and 40.2 hours Monthly: Simple average of all daily values; calculated if 7 or fewer days are missing Span of data : 08 Jan 1996 - 16 Nov 2008 Gaps > 1 mon : 02 Nov 1996 - 31 Dec 1996;04 Jan 2000 - 14 Jun 2000 20 Jun 2003 - 12 Nov 2003;30 Nov 2006 - 13 Feb 2008 Time Refernce: GMT (hours 00-23) Space-filler Flag :-9999 Units : millimeters Missing Data Flag : 9999 Existing : Yes Operational : Yes Sat. Trans. : Yes Distribution : 1996-2008 Refernce Levl: Tide gauge benchmark is HBM3 = 1.966m above mean sea level. Tide Gauge Zero = 23.004m below TGBM (1979,1980), arbitrary datum. Comment : The daily and monthly means reveal no apparent reference level changes or trends. The timing is off by a fraction of an hour in 1996. SPECIAL NOTE TO USERS OF NAT.
