Tide gauge is land mounted at the British Antarctic Survey's station very close to Stella Creek. A heater is located next to the stilling well to enable the gauge to operate in icy conditions (1959-). The National Institute of Oceanography was also a contributor in the 1960s. 2) Digiquartz (DQ) pressure sensor fitted outside of stilling well (1992-). Trans. : Yes Distribution : 1959-2018 Refernce Levl: All heights have been referred to STATION TIDE POLE 1970 ZERO which is geodetically linked to a network of fixed bench marks. Historically, "Mark 204" was the primary reference point; however, "Mark C," which is closer to the gauge, is now the primary tide gauge bench mark. The daily tide pole readings and chart values have been compared for many years and ad hoc correction factors have been applied to form offsets-- for example, due to the charts slipping. Comment : Glitches of several to nearly 12 hours have not been removed during editing and are noted below. The cause of the glitches is unknown. The timing is reasonable throughout, except for an offset less than an hour in 2000. Reanalysis by the Permanent Service for Mean Sea Level (Woodworth and Spencer) was performed on the 1984-1995 data. The Faraday base is now called Vernadsky and is operated by scientists from the Ukraine.
