MEXICO Originator : same Original Data: analog Instrmnt Type: standard gauge with float and stilling well Digitzd Intvl: hourly to tenths of feet Present Data : Hourly, daily, and monthly values obtained by: Hourly : spot sample on the hour from the analog roll Daily : 119-point convolution filter (Bloomfield, 1976) centered on noon applied to the hourly data with respective periods of the 95, 50, and 5% amplitude points at 124.0, 60.2, and 40.2 hours Monthly: Simple average of all daily values; calculated if 7 or fewer days are missing Span of data : 02 Jan 1962 - 31 Oct 1984 Gaps > 1 mon : 01 May 1962 - 23 Oct 1962;01 Jan 1963 - 05 Apr 1964 29 Feb 1968 - 01 Aug 1968;06 Aug 1972 - 14 Aug 1973 01 Mar 1974 - 02 Apr 1974;15 Jul 1976 - 26 Aug 1976 01 Apr 1978 - 01 May 1978;30 Jan 1979 - 02 Dec 1979 01 Nov 1982 - 08 Mar 1983;29 Mar 1983 - 01 May 1983 16 May 1983 - 01 Jul 1983;28 Jul 1983 - 15 Sep 1983 Time Refernce: GMT (hours 00-23) Space-filler Flag :-9999 Units : millimeters Missing Data Flag : 9999 Existing : Yes Operational : Yes Sat. Trans. : No Distribution : 1962-1984 Refernce Levl: The data are referred to tide staff zero which is linked to fixed bench marks. However, comparisons with neighboring sites and examination of the hourly residuals has lead to the following adjustment: period value added ( (hour)day/month/year ) to original(mm) --------------------------- --------------- (07)04/10/67-(07)07/10/67 200 (00)16/05/84-(14)01/08/84 -200 Comment : The daily and monthly values do not reveal any obvious reference level shifts or trends and agree fairly well with Manzanillo, Acapulco, and Salina Cruz with one exception. A downward trend from May-Nov 1965 is evident in differences with these neighboring sites with the mean level of Puerto Angel roughly 10 cm higher prior to the trend. Finite level jumps could not be identified in the residuals. The cause of the level change and trend is unknown. The timing is poor/fair for most of the record. Only extreme timing errors are noted below.
