The historic gauge at Government Jetty (1964-69,74) is referred to as Port Stanley-A, 290A. The Tide Gauge Zero of 290A is 6.258m below the PWD BM. The "STANLEY B-DATUM OCTOBER 1992" (Port Stanley-B, 290B) is 5.05 m below PWD BM. Comment : This site was operated at Government Pier Port Stanley from November 1964 as an arrangement between Fuchs and Irving. It was run by the Colonial Office to about 1975 but the quality of the records from 1970 is said to be poor. It was located inside the conference room at the west end of the Government Jetty in Stanely Harbor. The gauge existed in some form up to about 1982. This site is different from 290B (recent years). Timing corrections were applied by the JASL as well as removal of a few odd spikes.
