Comment : The monthly means show an upward trend of about 1.8 cm per year between 1965 and 1983. The data are suspiciously low by about 13 cm from 04 - 16 July, 1984 followed by a period of obvious stilling well blockage which appears corrected by 20 Sep. 1984. The timing of the hourly data is accurate to about 7 minutes with the more extreme timing drifts noted below. The data contain significant fluctuations with periods of one to ten days due mostly to continental shelf current variability. Also, there are numerous one to three day peaks that have a quasi-step function signature in the hourly residuals, which may be due to atmospheric pressure influences.
